Travel Photo Thursday; Mar 31st. Dacha, Lystvyanka

A favourite picture of mine, of a Dacha taken up a side road in Lystvyanka, on Lake Baikal, Russian Federation. While the rest of our group took a boat ride, we wandered around the town, enjoying the rustic settings, the overgrown gardens, glorious wild flowers, and lilacs flowering profusely. It was the height of summer, and no better time to visit. The houses often had the slumped ridge line, as foundations had moved over the years seasonal thawing and re-freezing of the peaty ground. That just added to the photographic attractions though.

At Nancie's Budget Traveler's Sandbox she's got a brilliant photo of Buddha's head, enveloped in tree roots at Ayutthaya, Thailand's world UNESCO site.
Take a look, you'll love it.

Jim, whenever I imagine a home, I always think of a house made of logs with a wee garden. Well, this house looks like as if it had stepped out of my imagination. The fence esp looks so good. Not many materialistic possessions inside except for rich hearts, I assume.

Thanks for this lovley picture, dear Jim.

Wish you joy and happiness,
Susan

What a fantastic picture. Just looking at it makes me think of spring.

I can't even begin to pronounce the town this was taken in. You are one of the few bloggers I have come across that has had any experience in Russia.

Wow so many comments. Fantastic to know you all enjoyed the pic. Yes it is one of those scenes that would inspire you to paint it. And I've always thought it was one of those photos you see in a calendar. The old Russian houses in that area of Irkutsk and Lake Baikal are so interesting.

Pretty photo, Jim! I had absolutely no idea where this was until I read "Russian Federation" :)

Hi Michael, a part of the world I'd like to get back to and explore more of that area,Buryatia, Tuva, Altai etc, all autonomous Republics within the Russian Federation.

I've wanted to visit Russia as long as I can remember. Seeing your photo just makes the desire to go there stronger. What a lovely shot in a lovely place.

Beautiful shot Jim! You've given me an idea for next week. There are quite a few old abandoned houses in rural Korea. They make great photo subjects.

Hi Nancie, you are right. old houses can tell a story if photographed correctly. I'll look out for your Thursday pic post.
